About KLabs

KLabs is a new idea that’s been launched in 2013. Our plan is to provide our chemistry students with a resource to help with lab work and revision, but not only that – the KLabs site will provide a platform for undergraduates (and postgraduates) to hone their writing and publishing skills. Feel free to browse through the links – you’ll see that we’ve just started to layout the design for the website. It’s early days and we’ll be tinkering and changing the layout in the coming months.

So it’s a website in two parts:

  • One half will focus on the academic side for chemistry students (labs and lecture revision tools)
  • One half will provide a unique opportunity to learn how to write for the web (blog articles)

Every University of Edinburgh student is welcome to play as big a part in developing the content as they wish, and we’re looking forward to working with lots of you in the years to come. Over time you’ll find things like revision videos, lab techniques videos and many, many articles on everything from how to calculate a solution dilution, to how to survive the labs!

1.  The Academic Side

Labs, Revision and More…

You’ll find links to access lab work files, as well as helpful information to assist you in your practical work. You’ll also find videos and articles that show you how to carry out techniques properly, so lots to help you. Last year (2013) we uploaded revision videos from your lecturers, so a very useful tool indeed when it comes to exam revision time.

We also add revision lectures for Dr Kirsop’s C1B, C2 and C3 courses in the revision section nearer exam time each year.

Don’t forget, we’ll be adding more as time goes on so keep checking.

2.  The Blog Writing Side

Learn to Write for the Web, Develop your Skill Set and more…

We have experienced editorial staff working on a voluntary basis to train you.

Writing articles that contribute to the content of KirsopLabs will arm you with specialist skills in web writing, and you could go on to learn about editing and publishing if you so wished. The opportunity is here and waiting for you. So if you’re interested in finding out how to get involved, email me on allisonkirsop[at]gmail.com.

We hope you like the site and find it useful in the years to come. Your feedback would be great to have as the KLabs site continues to develop, so please drop me a line anytime with any questions or comments.

Your editor,

Allison
